Entertainers, Ditch Perfection: The Spanx Success Formula

Perfection is the lowest standard you can have because it’s impossible to achieve.

Do You Want to Be Perfect—or Unstoppable as an Entertainer?
I have said this to myself countless times, “I just want it to be the best it can be.” Most of the time I am glad that I put in the extra work and went the extra mile, but I also wonder what if I just let go and put it out there? Wouldn’t I continue to get better? Perhaps I would have created more in the same amount of time?
A dear friend—often declares and with great passion—“I am a perfectionist.” No hesitation. Full ownership.
It’s hard to argue with that kind of clarity. After all, striving to be one’s best isn’t far off from perfectionism. The only difference? When the deadline hits, the work gets released—imperfections and all. That last part? It comes a bit harder for the perfectionist.

Consider the following: Perfectionism enters your mind taking ownership of all that you wish to create. Perfectionism wants to control. To feel safe by never slipping up. Underneath it all? Lies a deep desire for approval and a fear that if you mess up, game, set, match.
Sadly, the truth—perfection is paralysis, a dead-end—never releasing to the world your creation. You’re so afraid to get it wrong, you do… nothing.
Now imagine embracing, dear I say even loving—mistakes. Yes. Loving them. Playing the game of learning, growing, and recreating with each and every step. Believing that there are no missteps only next steps bringing you closer and closer to that elusive vision of perfection you hold so dear in your heart.
Appreciating that with each step, the more you move forward you take your creation beyond what you could ever imagine, because you invite in the energy, the spirt and all the other voices that take you higher than you could have ever dreamed of creating on your own.

Entertainers, The Time Is Now
Perfection might feel safer, but the very nature of creating is that art is always a risk. The rawness. The improvisation. The happy accident that leads to recognition.
No matter where you are today—go out, give it your all, give your 100% and embrace what you did not envision. Perhaps you are the only one calling it a “failure.” Or beating yourself up with “what-was-I-thinking”. Look deeper and discover the real magic that is happening before your eyes.
The recognition that if you did not take that step, you may have never taken the next step.
Sara Blakely didn’t wait to have a perfect product, perfect pitch, or perfect plan. She stepped forward, put one foot in front of the other and with a genius for embracing being imperfect—she became the perfection for the women who purchased her product, the employees she hired and the many more who have learned from her story, oh and she became a billionaire just by putting one step in front of the other.
Implementing Your New Insights
Ready to Take the Next Step? Here’s How!
A day, a week, a month, dear I say YES to embracing IMPerfection...
To have a year of failing dangerously.
Did you catch the imperfection in the title?
Here are some ideas to consider, always walk in doing the best you can, have a deadline, then fly and embrace the rush of the unknown:
🌟 Ask yourself, what mistakes did I make today and…
write or record them.” Embrace what you learned. Celebrate and laugh at how crazy it all is.
🌟 What the heck, go for it anyway
Do the best you can and if it did not turn out exactly as planned, accept, regroup and move forward.
🌟 Is it failure? Or is it?
Growth, research, and learning, but never stopping.

🌟 Don’t shame anyone around you who makes a mistake
Laugh with them, lift them up, ask them what they learned from the experience.
🌟 Share the behind-the-scenes
When appropirate let your team and perhaps even your audience in on your process. They may have some wonderful stories to share and ideas to offer.
