You all have made me feel like I belong, and I have come home at last. So, if there’s anyone out there who feels like they don’t belong or your time hasn’t come, don’t give up. Just keep on giving, because the world needs your love and your light now more than ever.
Nicole Scherzinger
2025 Tony Award Winner
Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical
Sunset Boulevard
From Empty Rooms to Global Applause
On a beautiful summer night in New York City, the Broadway community gathered to celebrate the pinnacle of theatrical excellence at the Tony Awards. This illustrious event, an event every theater loving person from around the world schedules their year around (ok maybe not everyone, but the majority) honors the outstanding plays and musicals staged in 41 theaters that comprise the iconic—using its endearing nickname the “Great White Way,” to express the bright lights of the marquees illuminating the streets where the Broadway theaters live. Nestled within a twelve-block radius, less than 1 mile apart from each other, these theaters are a powerhouse of talent. Captivating a global audience of over 4 million from around the world for the live televised Tony Awards Ceremony, not to mention the viewers who will watch the replay.

The Timeless Struggle for Recognition
Entertainers around the world strive to share their talents, yet only a select few will ever grace such a globally televised stage. Even those who do—like Nicole Scherzinger, who won Best Lead Actress in a Musical for her role in Sunset Boulevard at the 2025 Tonys —began their journey performing without an audience, fueled by pure passion and commitment.
In her acceptance speech, Nicole expressed, “I finally feel like I belong.” This sentiment resonates deeply with many entertainers who have felt like outsiders, yet it is this very uniqueness that defines an artist.
Throughout history, artists like Van Gogh were unappreciated during their lifetimes, and Picasso faced initial misunderstanding and controversy when he began displaying his work. Francis Jue, in a tuxedo gifted by his mentor Alvin Ing, used his Tony win to honor generations of Asian artists who had been overlooked. These stories remind us that the path to recognition is often paved with challenges.
Consider the many authors who face rejection before finding a publisher willing to take a chance on them. As entertainers, we pour love into our craft long before receiving applause. We encounter rejection and solitude, yet these experiences reflect the world we live in, document history, reflect social truths and forge social change.

Celebrate Your Art, Reward Your Heart
Artists are cultural leaders, shaping trends rather than merely following them. From unknown authors to groundbreaking performers like Alex Newell—the first openly nonbinary performer to win a Tony for playing a female role—it is without a doubt, we walk the roads less traveled.
It’s important to remember that external validation is not a prerequisite for self-reward. Now, this moment, is the time to celebrate your achievements and build confidence, as public recognition often follows private dedication. True belonging begins within. While applause is—let’s face it—incredibly gratifying, self-recognition, self-appreciation fuels the engine that drives you to create.
Entertainers—not all, as there are always exceptions—have stood in front of a mirror, practicing their award acceptance speech, envisioning the day their dreams will come true for as long as awards have been given. The beauty of this practice lies in the innocence of youth, where the feeling of achievement is so real, fueled by the imagination that anything is possible.

There’s no reason you can’t feel this today. Even if you’re not at an award ceremony, if you can create daily, you can reward yourself daily, creating feelings of acceptance, acknowledgment, and honoring your love for your art.
Every day, regardless of nominations or awards, celebrate the gift of living your art, because those moments of practice are life itself, your life. When challenges arise, reward yourself for your creativity and perseverance. When your work is acknowledged celebrate no matter how big or small the recognition. These moments of self-love will resonate with the universe, and no one can take away the joy you experience each and every day living and creating your art.
Remember, people are often rewarded for what they do in private. In the privacy of your own world, you are a GOAT—the Greatest Of All Time.
Implementing Your New Insights
Ready to Take the Next Step? Here’s How!
Here are several action steps you can take to get you started with creating your own awards ceremony:
- Celebrate the small victories and the dedication you put into your craft daily. It could be a simple treat, a small reward you give to yourself at the end of each day. Remember this treat is for you to feel wonderful:
- writing in an appreciation journal
- Drinking your favorite beverage
- A walk to a place you enjoy
- Anything that is small and simple that you can give yourself each and every day after you finish working.
- Celebrate milestones:
- Establish a routine where you reward yourself for milestones, big or small. This could be a day off, a special meal or seeing a friend.
- Reflect on Your Journey:
- Take time to reflect on your growth and the unique path you are on. Document your experiences and learnings in a journal—video, audio or written.
- The magic of preserving your milestones is this: when you revisit your words later, you’ll be astonished by just how much you’ve achieved. We rarely see the full scope of our accomplishments while we’re busy reaching for what’s next.

- Connect with Your Passion:
- write down and reread all the reasons why you are doing the art you have chosen.
- Why you became an Entertainer.
- Allow your passion to fuel your daily efforts and remind you of your purpose.
- Embrace Solitude:
- Use moments of solitude to deepen your connection with your art.
- Practice Meditation
- These private moments often lead to the most profound creative breakthroughs.

As Entertainers, as artists, our journey is filled with unique challenges and triumphs. By embracing our individuality and celebrating our achievements, we not only honor our craft but also inspire others.
Let us take the rewards each time we live, practice and work on our passions and continue to lead, create, and celebrate the artist within us every day.

Theater Kid: A Broadway Memoir
by Jeffrey Seller
It’s impossible to talk about the 2025 Tony Awards without mentioning Theater Kid by Jeffrey Seller — which is exactly why it’s our next pick for the Entertainers Life Book Club. For me, this isn’t just an essential read for the Broadway community — it’s a must for every entertainer and artist, for every artistic passion.
Jeffrey Seller, the brilliant producer behind Rent and Hamilton, shares his story so openly, taking us from his childhood in Detroit all the way to the Broadway stage.
I listened to the audiobook (highly recommend!) and it honestly felt like sitting front row for a one-man show — with a fantastic supporting cast including Annaleigh Ashford, Darren Criss, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It’s raw, honest, and filled with so many lessons for any creative — whether you’re on stage, in a gallery, or building your own artistic vision from scratch.
There’s laughter, heartbreak, and those reminders we all need about why we choose this life in the arts. I always say: borrow it from your library, grab the audiobook, or support your favorite indie bookstore through Bookshop.org — just don’t miss it.
If you read or listen to Theater Kid, please share your thoughts with me! I’d love to hear what parts inspired you the most. Let’s keep the conversation going — I can’t wait to hear what you think.
